On August 1st, 2023, Mattel announced, to much fanfare, that they were producing a new line of biodegradable Barbie dolls, made from mushrooms, called ‘MyCelia'. The line was launched with an EcoWarrior edition featuring five new Barbies representing iconic activist role models: Julia Butterfly Hill, Greta Thunberg, Nemonte Nenquimo, Phoebe Plummer & Daryl Hannah.
Actually, that's not true.
Sadly, Mattel did not make that announcement... It was us.

CREATION
The ‘MyCelia' Barbie prototypes and accessories are crafted by skilled B.L.O. creators. Real Barbie packaging is studied and replicated to create authentic-looking packs littered with hidden details.

ADVERTISING
A studio photo shoot is held to create promotional images of the dolls. Fledgling covert B.L.O. operatives leap into action to produce a video advertisement with the newly created EcoWarrior Barbies.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Posing as Mattel, the B.L.O. distribute a press release announcing the new line of dolls. A video of Daryl Hannah proudly launching the dolls is released online. The B.L.O. also pose as Mattel to deny the fake press release.

PRESS CONFERENCE
Members of the press and media are invited to an online press conference where the B.L.O. reveal their involvement and explain the purpose of the stunt. How will Mattel respond? We’ll be watching.
